Falklandia was an oddity. By all rights it should not exist, much less in the form it currently took. Liberalism had come and gone form the world, that much was certain. The nations of the modern day seemed to get more and more autocratic as time went on. Somedays Nova wondered if pretending to be democratic was even worth it. She played with the lily in her hand. Not that it really mattered what front they put up. Falklandia was her playground. Not a single person could tell her what to do. She smiled as the doors to the room opened and the rest of the Court entered.
The first to enter was Nemo, commander of the naval forces. She took her seat to the right of Nova, nodding. Nemo was an oddity, even among the oddity that was Falklandia. No one knew where she came from, she had no known family, and no known history. However she was a brilliant naval commander who had quickly impressed everyone in the navy. Thus it was no surprise when Nova had appointed her. Her blonde hair flowed from under her turban and changed to an electric blue color. It was unknown how she got the colors as she had never been seen with hair dye.
The next to enter was Tecla Artells, the commander of the ground forces. Tecla was well known for her brutality to her enemies. Her forces had put down an insurgency with such ferocity that the government actually had to put effort into covering it up. Nonetheless she was considered the perfect person for the job of leading the armies. Considered ruthless by the average person she was nonetheless beloved by the army. Her skills in command and the fanatical loyalty that she commanded would have made lesser leaders afraid, but Nova saw her as an asset. Tecla took her oath of loyalty extremely seriously and thus was considered the most loyal member of the court. She took her seat to the left of Nova, placing her cap in front of her and leaned back to relax.
The third officer to enter was Eirin Stel, the commander of the air and space forces. She was considered a cold individual who generally did not care about others around her. Her job was quite possibly the hardest of the three commanders. Her planes had to cover all of Falklandia. She however never complained. Instead she was the one who solved most problems that arose. The Air Force had eliminated many potential threats to the court before they could manifest. She also was the one pushing the most for technological advancement. As such her branch was the most advanced, allowing it to complete its job better and better. She took her seat next to Nemo, frowning at the relaxed Tecla.
The next two entered as a pair, Dāsu Beidā and Jeda Inaito, both descendants from Japanese immigrants. Dāsu was in charge of state security. She controlled all information that flowed through Falklandia. It was under her direction that media was allowed to publish. If she decreed something a danger to the court it would be suppressed. Any dissidents would be targeted by her forces and disappeared without a trace. However it was never done to public opposition. That would create too much noise. Instead she aimed at taking out people before they became popular enough. She considered any public dissent a failure of her job. Jeda on the other hand was the commander of the local garrisons north of the Antarctic. Her forces acted as the local police and ensured the laws were functioning smoothly. They sat taking the two seats on the same side as Tecla.
The final person to enter was perhaps the oddest one of all. Oswald Chesterfield Kapelput was not a military officer. Instead he was a rich entrepreneur. He had made his fortune early on running a newspaper and went on to the sciences. It where there he accidently stumbled into a ray that made penguins sentient. It had no other affect. Thus the Penguin Empire was born. He created a language for the penguins to communicate with and taught them business, creating the worlds largest fishing industry. With penguins become legal citizens of Falklandia Oswald was appointed their representative in government and rose in the ranks, eventually being picked to join the court. He took his seat next to Eirin grinning devilishly.
As the final member sat down Nova closed her hand, crushing the lily in it. She placed her closed fist on the table. "Ladies, and gentleman, I have noticed a small problem." She threw a small newspaper on the table. "Why is the insurgent leader being allowed to walk around my nation freely?" She let the pedals fall from her hand. "I thought I made it clear we were to deal with all problems promptly."
"You have," Dāsu said nodding. "And I am taking measures to deal with it." She picked up the remote in front of her and turned on the projection to begin her presentation. "The problem is that the insurgents have some likability to them. They are proposing liberal reforms that seem nice at a glance. So we need an event that will tarnish their reputation. State Security has devised a plan that will allow this to happen. Stage one is let the leader feel as though he is untouchable. If he thinks this he will become careless, exposing him to more danger. Stage two is to lure in the insurgents. We will set a trap for them, disguising a civilian target as a military target. The insurgents will attack it and the news media will cover it extensively. And finally Stage three, we arrest the public insurgents for terrorism. This should break their morale. They've been struggling to achieve victories period and if we can rip one brutally away from them then they will finally be done for."
Nova nodded and leaned back, picking a new flower, this one a rose. "Good. This plan is better than I expected. I approve. However. It better work. Or else." She looked Dāsu in the eyes and crushed the rose. "Don't be so delicate that you fail me."
