Government
The Crowned Government’s government can be summarized best as a unitary republic with a strong executive branch while retaining religious influences of a state religion that emphasizes technocracy and transhumanism, walking a fine line between republic and theocracy. Democratic elections still take place to elect regional representatives, but they plus much of the nation’s regular maintaining bureaucracy are made up of a professional civil officer service sworn by their faith and several years of dedicated training in their roles, where many will choose to make a career. Departments under such order include local utilities, emergency services, transportation bureau, and even infrastructure maintenance and offices of regional development. The term of Republic therefore stands as a barely-correct term, where citizens can vote for leaders to represent them in the national legislature and vote for laws on the national level.
At the core of the nation is the Sacred Constitution, which hosts the core tenants of the nation’s religious and political values, of which include the rights of citizens to the obligations of its people to uphold and defend the Republic’s teachings. One of the most regarded tenants is the responsibility of government: crime and poverty are hardly consequences of the people themselves- crime is a symptom of a ill-functioning government, and as such, blame is centered entirely on the nation’s leadership for any failures that may occur, followed by incredibly harsh punishments for those held responsible.
Organization
The organization of the Devout Republic’s leadership is made up of five branches in a separation of powers. These consist of the Executive, Legislative, Judicial, Moderation, and Educational Branches, each given a set of powers designed to closely cooperate and balance one another out, despite a strong emphasis of power around the Presidency. All politicians must have some major and career in their relevant position, save for parliamentary and Presidential positions, who must undergo a special process for their eligibility to lead. The nation itself is split into multiple provinces, each one led by a Exalted Governor-General who similarly follow the same route to their position as the members of the legislature and Presidency. Each province is granted a level of autonomy in their governance, including local police, local representation, and judicial powers, and certain laws, though they remain privy to audits by the Sanctioned Inquisition, as well as national law.
Executive Branch
The Executive Branch is responsible for the enforcement and fulfillment of laws across the Devout Republic, from the military to postal service. It appoints the Justices of the Supreme Court and holds an executive veto ability over the legislative bills passed to them to be signed by the legislature. It is headed by the Marked President and their cabinet, the House of the High Pious, who make up the head officials of the Executive Branch’s departments.
- Office of The Marked President
The President and Vice President of the Devout Republic serve as the nation’s head of state, serving 10-year terms. The President is responsible for signing legislation into law or vetoing it, as well as appointing the members of the Supreme Court. They are voted in from among the membership of the National Assembly to hold office, fulfilling a criteria of prestigious public service as a competent regional governor of at least thirty years. They also carry the ability to submit Accords of Action to their cabinet for emergency actions, available once a year, unless a declared national emergency is active.
- House of the High Pious
As the cabinet of the President, the High Pious are the serving head officials of the Executive Branch, from Minister of State to the General-Reverent. In addition to advising the President, each member is responsible for the management of their own departments, which entails first an accomplished leadership role from their department, marked by certification from the Holy School for leadership training. While they are appointed by the Marked President, they can very much still file audits for suspicious activity
Legislative Branch
Formed of a single legislative body and a unique publicly-assembled body, the Legislative Branch is responsible for drafting bills of laws by democratic assembly. The legislative body itself, the National Chamber, is made up of regional representatives appointed by the respective region’s Exalted Governor-General, with close cooperation to the Hall of Liberty, a forum accessible to the public for critique of bills by professional consensus.
- National Chamber
Assembled of seventeen representatives from each of the six provinces, the 102 representatives of the National Chamber are responsible for the lawmaking of the nation. Each representative, appointed by their Exalted Governor-General with merited recommendation from the Sanctioned Inquisition, serve a five-year term with tri-monthly audits for performance and integrity. Representatives themselves head important departments of their regions, and work in conjunction with other members of the legislature to define a list of prioritized regions that require attention, as well as solutions for those regions in a doctrine of equity. Lobbying is expressly forbidden in all forms, with the representatives living in government-officer apartments for their entire term.
- Hall of Liberty
The Hall of Liberty, more commonly referred to as the Forum, serves as a platform for the public to communicate their concerns on a bill currently being discussed. This usually revolves around assemblies of the professional and educated public presenting themselves and making arguments for adjustments to a bill in session, where it will be debated and presented back to the National Chamber to assess for feasibility. Presenters themselves must be of nonpartisan sources, acting independent of corporate nor outside interests. To this end, they very commonly come from lower government departments or local universities that have noted a discrepancy and wish to bring attention to the issue.
Judicial Branch
Hosting the supreme court of the Devout Republic, the Judicial Branch’s Righteous Tribunal is the highest tribunal in the country, hosting its ten supreme justices to head off the the entirety of the justice system across the nation. Responsible for the regular management of the nation’s law enforcement and courts, the Righteous Tribunal is also responsible for the review of laws for breaches of the religion or violations of citizens’ rights.
- Righteous Tribunal
Serving as the supreme court of the entire nation, the Righteous Tribunal services the entire justice system of the country, with lesser courts answering to superior courts all the way up to the Righteous Tribunal itself. Law enforcement, in the form of a national police force, answer to their respective branches of the courts, though they too like all officers of government must undergo the government education process to be inducted. The Tribunal itself has the power to override laws and bills either in force or in draft by conducting investigations that may find them guilty of heresy against the national constitution and religion. In addition, the Tribunal is in charge of convicting members of government for violations of the law in conjunction with the Moderation Branch.
Moderation Branch
As the nation’s foremost eye over the nation’s internals, the Moderation Branch’s Sanctioned Inquisition is responsible for auditing the performances of the nation’s government and to a lesser degree, regular populace. Every person, from the President to general, judge to jury, are all privy to the keen eyes of the Inquisition. If the Judicial Branch deals in bureaucracy of law, then the Moderation Branch deals in the acquisition of everything from evidence to suspects in a case that may pose a threat to any function of the government machine- themselves included.
- Temple of the Sanctioned Inquisition
The Inquisition’s leadership is selected by the Righteous Tribunal from among the presently leading directors of cases, who vote for a heading director in a group of five for the Tribunal to choose from. Though it is effectively a secret police force, the Inquisition is only responsible for the regular close monitoring of government officers and their connections. Regular citizenry are still watched, though the consequences of their actions are considerably less draconian in return compared to that of government officials. Regular officer of the Inquisition are trained through the Holy School by the Academy, which gives recruits all knowledge on preforming thorough investigations.
Educational Branch
Considered to be the linchpin of the nation’s government, the schools of the Educational Branch are responsible for teaching students from childbirth to be devout and good citizens of the Republic. As according to traditional thought, all of a person’s achievements and failures are the result of their family upbringing- following this thought, the Republic rigorously trains its citizens to be well-informed and aware, so that even if the government’s organs fail and it becomes rife with corruption and strife, the population is not left helpless. Everyone, from government officials to soldiers to regular folk must enter and leave the schools of the Educational Branch as a graduate at some point in their lives, a fact guaranteed by the Constitution itself.
- Holy School of United Orders
A combination of countless specialized academies and universities, the civic academies of the Holy School are responsible for the training of government officers to become effective and informed officials in their fields. The process to become a government officer is hard and rigorous by the fierce training that is enforced upon its students, where professionalism and competence are paramount. Its teachers are chosen from decorated senior members and those retiring from duty to educate the new members in the most effective way possible, cutting no corners and leaving no subject unfinished. Semesters often are extended simply because another topic relevant in a cadet’s potential future is suddenly relevant and retraining is incredibly common.
- Consecrated Temple of Education
Making up the regular education for the citizenry, the Temple of Education accepts all students to the Republic’s teachings, from former inmates to children in every field, from mathematics and geography to languages, science, history, and art, among countless others. It is considered a duty to attend classes alone and a requirement to emerge with a career path, if not several, in mind once emerging from its final levels of university. Classes themselves are taught by enduring professionals of their fields who often take students into internships in order to familiarize them with their subjects, while the Temple ensures that student life remains bearable by offering a plethora of services, from therapy to living accommodations.
