Before Catastrophe: Western Empires continue colonizing the African coasts, and begin pushing inland as technology and interest advance. Domestic tribes and empires continue to clash, both with each other and with foreigners. Most of the Dark Continent continues the status quo it has upheld for centuries, but the future is uncertain.
1840: The earth tears itself apart as entire landmasses rise and fall. A large swath of Southern Africa sinks, causing a mass migration northwards into modern South Cecilia. A 70 year long period begins of the white, mixed, and white-educated populations oppressing, encroaching, and killing black natives for their resources, to maintain and grow their populations, as well as support the new Riftborne Dogger populations forced upon them, at tribal expense. This new territory is designated as 'Zambezia' after the Zambezi river.
1840s-1870s: The creation of seas cutting through North Africa and South America results in increased global interaction and trade to help counteract the devastation. The Victoria Coast (South Cecilian Coast), seen as safer than the remainder of the Cape Colony, and more civilized than the (Botswana countries), sees large scale development of commerce because of this.
1870s-1910s: Mining companies strike diamond and other minerals, sparking a national boom. Labour, military, and immigrants move upwards into modern North West and North East Cecilia. The country is organized and renamed after Cecil Rhodes, whom headed national economic and imperialistic growth for decades until his death in the 1900s. The country is named the Cecil Republic instead of the Rhodesian Republic to promote the national personification of Cecilia (See Britiannia, Columbia, Marianne, etc.) in order to help create a national identity early on.
1910s-1940s: The Barotsecoast (Cecillian West Coast) develops as the world begins to enter full recovery and North West Cecilia is fully integrated. Cecilia begins formally sending volunteers to foreign conflicts and transitions its forces from expansionist militias to a professional military.
1940s-1980s: North East Cecilia is fully integrated, and national development reaches a milestone as many major inland highways and cities are developed.
1980s-2020s: The advancement of aviation makes travel to and within Cecil easier and faster, causing another economic and migration boom.
2020s-2040s: Cecil observes and possibly sends volunteers to the 'American Conflict' but remains mostly uninvolved, hoping to gain fleeing white migrants and refugees from the now war-torn continent with the Cecilian promise of 'land, liberty, and peace'.
2040s-2120s: The Cecil Republic has grown into vibrant modern state on the international stage, but its internal issues have begun to catch up with it as the native population has bounced back from almost a century of death with two centuries of growth. Though still appearing peaceful on the outside, there is internal talk of civil rights, autonomy, and separatism. The rift between those that do and don't support the Republic is growing, dividing families, regions, and races. The time is coming when war, which Cecilia had avoided for so long, may come knocking on her door.
