MEN Cecilian men are encouraged to enlist during peacetime and conscripted during wartime. They serve for 7-12 months depending on position before continuing their service, joining the reserves, or exiting the service. Unlike many other western militaries, most service men do not wear full body armor. Rather they wear full body camo to blend in the bush. Face and body paint is also common, whether to appear as another race or to increase their camouflage. The most famous aspect of their uniform are the camo short shorts they situationally wear. If expected to be deep in combat, on short parade, or other circumstances in which the cursory protection or professionalism that pants provide are needed, long legged pants are worn. In most other situations, shorts or short shorts are worn. The sweltering weather, the frequency of crossing creeks and patrolling coasts, etc. warrant them. While there is body armor and vests in numbers, the primary methods of bullet resistance and deflection are ballistic shields and armored vehicles. This equipment too is often camouflaged. Whenever it isn't, it is made to look intimidating or otherwise unique, for example sharkmouth and other nose art. The primary language of the military is firmly English, although Afrikaans and Shona is spoken and used by large parts of the military secondarily, various Alban, Boer, and Shona words have entered the common lexicon regardless of primary language spoken.WOMEN
Surprisingly enough, women have served in a fully equal capacity to men for several decades, and have been involved in the military in some form or another for about a century. This has roots in the riftborne, near-human Doggers having equal gender roles, and this having gradually transmuted to Cecilian society as a whole.
This gender and racial equal service, including conscription, ironically makes the CSF one of the most progressive forces on the planet. Despite the risks involved, women make up to 40% of the Security Forces and serve in all roles, who band together to defend from the abuse that females are vulnerable to in the field. Aside from accounting for biological duties, women wear mostly the same uniforms and perform most of the same duties as men resulting in a rather homogenous force.
