Main Ethnic Groups
Alban
The Albans are not one single race, but rather a grouping of the immigrants and their descendants that originated from Albion, and before it the British Empire. From as far south as the former city of Cape Town to as far north as Inverness, migrants came in countless numbers. Many came and many left, but many stayed and made Cecilia their home. Albans make up the 'core' group of Cecilians, despite sharing the title of being 'white' or being 'loyalist' with millions of other citizens. Also to note, when discussing Albans, immigrants from the American countries are included due to their English-speaking, Albion-descended nature. Additionally the smaller but impactful Irish population in Cecilia is often lumped into this category, much to their chagrin.
Boer
Originally Dutch immigrants that settled the former Cape region of South Africa and beyond, these hardy people have faced a lot of struggle in their pursuit of freedom. Their liberties have been limited throughout the ages, first by the greed of the VOC, then by the Anglo-centric former British Empire. The final blow came with the Catastrophe, which destroyed much of South Africa and forced yet another Great Trek northwards. The Boers, alongside their British brethren, then settled the region that would later be known as Cecilia. Due to their past experiences, the Boers are known as being very good political and military fighters.
Shona
The Shona people are the majority native ethnic group in South Cecilia, and have a notable small population in North West Cecilia. The united identity of the Shona is only a few centuries old, as they are traditionally regionalist and were only united by commonalities of language and culture. These people had significant success in architecture and empire in the middle ages, creating Great Zimbabwe, but gradually had their power eroded due to early Portuguese contact and internal conflicts. Weakened but surviving, their luck worsened once more due to the Catastrophe. Their once landlocked countryside was now exposed to the seas, and the influx of western refugees, immigrants, and the trade and culture they brought led to the casualties of tens if not hundreds of thousands of Shona, which completely wrecked their former population of a few hundred thousand total. The surviving Shona people were divided between cooperating with the westerners, mixing or giving up aspects of their culture in exchange for wealth, and traditionalists, who denied most western customs and moved inland away from white settlements. Of course, many Shona fought against the westerners, and won some victories, but over the course of half a century of various conflicts, the Shona lost most, and were becoming fully subdued by the turn of the 20th century. To this day, the Shona are divided by Cecil loyalists and Anti-Cecil traditionalists.
Northern Tribes
Seemingly vague, the matter of fact is that the entire native population of North West and North East Cecilia are made up of several dozen small ethnic groups. Some of them have many similarities, while others have few to none, but they cannot be easily grouped together in one solid category. Yet, out of the several dozen groups, the top 5 largest groups each make up 5% or more of the population. There have been actions in the past and present to unite these minority groups, but they have been dominated by the Albans, Boers, and Shona for centuries, and it would be surprising if this changed.
Dogger
The word dogger has a few meanings, all strange and oddly specific; one geological, one sexual, and one that's in Dutch. However, this version of the word Dogger refers to the dog-eared, and sometimes dog-tailed near-human people of the Cecil Republic. Doggers are very close to humans, containing a similar internal biological structure, and a similar appearance -apart from a few dog-looking appendages- to Earth humans, and it is likely that Doggers acted like the equivalent of humans on their home world. The reason for this being that Doggers are rather diverse- they have a smaller but similar range of skin tones as humans, and the range of the color and shape of their ears and tails are immeasurable. Apart from appearance, they also spoke a few different languages when they arrived, most related to each other in some way. It is then perhaps unfair to lump them all into one ethnic group after saying they were so diverse, but as the generations went on, doggers became more homogeneous- all speaking either English or Afrikaans, most being loyalist to the Cecil Republic, and most being crafty, resourceful, social, and eager. Thus despite looking different, speaking different, and living in different places, doggers are usually put in one group because of similar behavior across the board. Notably, most doggers that came out of the rifts were female, resulting in a larger social difference between male and female doggers, and increased human-dogger interbreeding that has been going on ever since the Catastrophe. This interbreeding has resulted in an even larger diversity of doggers, including partial and half-doggers.
Might add other peeps later idk
