The Soldiers lined up in columns, the cool wind blowing against their uniforms. The Men were separated in rows of their respective companies. While segments of each line were organized in camouflage colored uniforms. The Front was white and as the colors got darker, from green, to grey, to black. Slowly and surely one by one the men fell into line as officers and battalion leaders yelled at men to follow orders and be on the double. The sound of training fire and men grunting could be heard in the nearby woods as the men column prepared to march forward.
An officer stepped onto the top of the armored truck that sat in front of all the soldiers, his white camouflage uniform looking similar to everyone else beside the red cape flowing down his shoulders that blew in the wind. He gazed upon the thousands of men lined up like a deity observing his subjects. The Men stood either whispering to each other or small talk among each other asking questions of where they were going or talking about their brides back home.
The Officer was handed a megaphone by a similar decorated officer, which rang sharply causing the columns of men to get silent. One by one it grew silent as the Officer asked for the column's attention.
“Comrades! It's good seeing you all here today. More men, just like you are prepared to do what must be done for our glorious nation.”
“I will keep this brief, we are on a schedule, you are all to begin marching down this road. About 5 miles you will find a junction, go left and you will approach a bunker built into the cliffs. You will enter that bunker and await further orders!”
The men shouted “Yes, sir!” To the officer as he jumped into the truck which veered to the left and swiveled next going against the now moving column. As a Lieutenant kept the formation in check as the men trudged through the sloping roads, across woodland, and winding rocky terrain. Time flew for the soldiers as they blurred into one mass, in unison and unity singing marching songs and passing the time.
Eventually as the sun reached the max point in the sky, the column stopped at a large checkpoint. Hidden under the shade of a cliff another smaller approaching column of troops appeared from the right. The Lieutenant that marched with the column threw up his hand in a salute to the approaching Brigadni General. The General peered over the Lieutenant’s shoulder.
The Brigadni General slowly saluted back and walked to the side patting the Lieutenant’s shoulder. “Good, The 57th Has Arrived.”
The Brigadni General began to walk back towards the Lieutenant, his gestures calm and relaxed. His expression is cheeky with a slight grin. “So Lieutenant, this is everyone?”
“Yes, Brigadni General!” The Lieutenant responded to the Brigadni General with a heavy breeze rattling the exposed column and officers up front.
The Brigadni General nodded and spoke once more the front column viewing his uniform, it was unlike the normal General attire. It was dark black and designed to be light. He could be mistaken for any other soldier if the black generals cap on his head wasn’t there. “Lieutenant, your column will be the first when the trains arrive, if they do arrive. For now you will take your men inside the bunker. Make sure they bring everything inside. Nothing is to be left outside.”
The Lieutenant Saluted once more and exclaimed again “Yes, Brigadni General!” He motioned to the column to walk forward once more as they made their way to the large concrete doors that were already open. One by one the men walked inside feeling the immediate humidity that built inside. There was vehicle after vehicle in the bunker. Armored cars sat on the side of the walls, next to them were APCs. Tanks sat near the back and in the middle were two jets and two close air support jets. The men admired the display of vehicles as they soon all reached inside.
Military police waved batons to the right directing the column into a large open space meant for troops to pass through, the march continued but it seemed like it will end soon as the column turned right they entered a bunk type living area that had row on row of beds and in the middle seats and table galore. A Captain already in the bunker walked up to the Lieutenant and talked to him privately as the loud sound of machinery and other soldiers blocked out any sense of hearing such.
The Lieutenant approached the men and waved his arms around to gain their attention. Yelling some orders for tomorrow about some trains that should come in a week or two, the men nodded as slowly the column fell apart and men went to find their respective bunks.
They were barely told anything at this point, just to march and follow orders always. However, seeing these vehicles, the higher ups, and secrecy. Something was being planned, and it was big.
